Today my sister Libby and I headed over to Culburra Beach Surf School to let the experts show our teenagers the finer points of surfing. Culburra Beach, just 2 hours south of Sydney, is one of those "serious" surf towns where generations of surfing families live and work. (I have to say that most of our tradies are keen surfers and if the surf is pumping, there's not a lot of renovation happening...)
One of those families is the Wrights whose five kids followed their father into the surf and three of them are now on the world surfing circuit. The current Women's World Surfing Champion is none other than Culburra's own Tyler Wright who's success has brought even more attention to this normally sleepy beach town this year. Her brothers Owen and Mikey Wright have been world top five surfers for some years, also.
Peter Hill who lives right on the beach with his own large surfing tribe, runs the local surf school. Our kids had a blast surfing today with Peter and were even joined by a pod of dolphins. Kids of all ages and abilities -- and even adults - can learn to surf here. Its great fun and guaranteed to exhaust the most active kids!
